Whether you are just starting your health and fitness journey or a veteran in the workout world, HITT class is a must try. It remains popular among fitness enthusiasts due to its high energy atmosphere, calorie burning advantage, cardio health, metabolism boost and muscle growth potential. HITT ( High Intensity Interval Training) can be incorporated into any fitness class/routine, no matter what your goals are. There are a plethora of different HITT style classes, here are 3 examples of HITT classes you will be addicted to!
Circuit Training
Just think of it as moving from station to station in a circle formation, hence the word circuit. You will perform a different exercise at each station for a short period of time followed by a short rest in between stations. In a traditional circuit style class, you will go around the circle 2 or 3 times with 6 to 12 stations. If you are slightly HDHD or bored easily this is for you!
Class Example
6 Stations set up in a circle. 40 seconds work/20 seconds rest. Full circuit 2 times.
Station 1, Jump Squats
Station 2, Butt Kicks
Station 3, Bicep Curls/Curtsy Lunges
Station 4, Push Ups
Station 5, Crunches
Station 6, Skull Crushers/ Toe Reaches
Tabata
A Tabata workout is basically HIIT on crack! The idea is to execute each movement to the fullest for 20 seconds followed by a very short 10 second recovery, each exercise is performed 8 times in a classic Tabata class. This is great for anyone who is ready to level up their HITT game.
Class Example
4 Exercises/ 8 Rounds Each
Quick Feet, 20 Second work/10 Second Recovery
Deadlifts, 20 Second work/10 Second Recovery
Front Press, 20 Second work/10 Second Recovery
Chest Press, 20 Second Work/10 second Recovery
Stationary Bike/Spin Class
Fun fact, a spin class is basically a 45 minute to 60 minute HITT style workout. Weather you are sprinting, climbing hills, playing with speed or power, you are practising HITT.
Class Example
Stationary Bike Drill, 4 minute song
30 second flat road
30 second sprint
30 second recovery
30 second sprint
30 second recovery
Repeat until the song is finished
Conclusion
So what did we learn? HITT is more of a concept than a workout class, you can incorporate it into any fitness program, it can be done anywhere, you can use equipment or use your individual body weight. What are your favorite HITT inspired classes or workouts? Let me know, I would love to hear.
