Imposter Syndrome, Growth Mindset and Making Love to Failure

Ahhhh Imposter Syndrome, our ever-constant frenemy and latest buzz fraise for insecurity, the feeling of inadequacy, lack of self esteem and inability to celebrate our accomplishments. How do we combat this little monster? Here are 3 proven ways on how to make Imposter Syndrome work in your favour.

  1. Ditch Perfectionism ( Its like Nike Just do It)

At some point, you have to go down the slide kids! You will never feel 100% ready to dive into whatever it is that you desire to do. Procrastination is quite the seducer and defense mechanism we use to protect ourselves from feeling uncomfortable, but at what cost? Allow yourself to feel proud just for getting started and have fun with trying something new. Beginnings are meant to be awkward and perfectionism is an illusion.

2. Apply a Growth Mind Set

Just because your not good at something now, absolutely does not determine your ability to be successful at it in the future. circling back to beginnings being awkward, you are bound to get better at something with practise. The human brain is programed to keep us safe, not successful, now let that sink in. By learning new things we create neuropathways in the brain, creating a brand new story to tell our selves.

3. Make Love to Failure

After all our hard work and practise and time spent improving our skills…… YES WE MIGHT FAIL……. We have 2 choices, let this concept completely paralyze us or learn from it and do it again and again and again. Most of the time we don’t learn much from our accomplishments, its set backs and failures witch force us to grow in the human experience. J.K Rowling was turned down by 12 publishing companies prior to getting a yes on Harry Potter. Can you imagine if she gave up after the first no??

So go get started on that blog that no one will read ,that painting that no one will buy or that move to France that will be a mistake or will it???????

Make friends with your Imposter Syndrome, face it with a smile.

    Good points. Thanks for sharing.
It’s sad and disappointing that such a potentially debilitating mental health condition exists.

Last sentence!!! I love blogging, however, I did need to overcome the fear of producing something that fails. But there are so many diverse bloggers out there – I love how there is space for us all!
