My 3 favourite breath techniques to increase motivation and improve alertness.

What is free? Surrounds you? Has the power to help you distress and strengthen your core? If you guessed air, you got it! 

Implementing simple breathing techniques into your daily health routine can increase alertness, calm the nervous system down and increase creativity, here are 3 powerful breathing exercises and how to do them:

Use Respiration as Inspiration

Vacuum Exercise:

(Great for awakening the transverse abdominis)

  • Lye down on your back and bend your knees
  • Take a deep breath in and fill your stomach with air
  • Exhale all the air out and press your belly button into your spine
  • Hold for 10 to 45 seconds
  • Repeat 2 or 3 more times

Wim Hof Method:

( Good for reducing stress and anxiety) 

  • While sitting or lying down, take 30 deep breaths,(like sounds of the ocean)
  • Exhale all the air out and hold for one minute
  • Do 2 inhales and hold for 30 seconds

Breath of fire:

( Helps to detoxify the body, increases energy and vitality)

  • Sit in a comfortable position
  • Take a deep inhale and fill your belly with lots of air
  • Press your belly up and into the back of your spine, like a dog panting (Yes it will feel weird, just do it anyway)
  • Stop, inhale and squeeze your belly into the back of spine while holding your breath, squeeze as hard as possible for 30 seconds
  • Release

The beauty of it all is that you can perform these techniques whenever and wherever you want, as many times as you want. There is no need for any type of complicated or expensive equipment, just you and the endless power of your breath.
